Lewes Acupuncture Clinic
Tucked away, with good access, our Lewes Acupuncture Clinic is based within Cliffe Osteopaths - a quiet location that provides a relaxing atmosphere.
We are a highly professional team, with decades of experience.
Diagnosis is done with care, involves you in the process and will be explained in ways that make sense to you.
How does acupuncture in Lewes work?
Acupuncture uses extremely thin, sterile, needles (0.2mm) to affect the body's physiological processes. It stimulates the movement of blood and fluids, strengthening weaknesses within your circulation and helping clear any obstructions that disrupt these normal circulations.
It balances the autonomic nervous system, calming down the sympathetic or 'fight or flight' responses and promoting the parasympathetic 'rest and digest' healing mechanisms by stimulating the production of endorphins and serotonin - neurotransmitters responsible for feeling well and happy.
What happens in a treatment?
Diagnosis involves discussion about symptoms and medical history, and non-invasive body diagnosis - including examining your tongue, checking your abdomen, face and limbs and checking your pulse.
Once inserted, needles are left for about 20 minutes.
Treatment may be supplemented with ‘moxa’ (a smouldering herb that adds warmth), massage or suction cups.
What does it feel like?
The sensation is often described as a 'tingling' or 'a dull ache'. Some points you won't even feel.
Treatment often only requires four to six needles. Once inserted, the needle may be gently rotated to obtain a slight sensation called 'deqi' translated as 'obtaining the qi'.
Most people that visit our acupuncture clinic in Lewes find the experience relaxing and often fall asleep once the needles are in.
